UN Nominates Punjab Housing Project For Global Award: Azma Bukhari
Punjab Minister for Information and Culture, Azma Bokhari, has announced that the United Nations has recognized Punjab government’s “Apni Chhat Apna Ghar” project with a global award. She described this as an honor for Pakistan's 140 million people.
This housing initiative, developed through Punjab's own resources, is among five major projects globally and the largest of its kind in Pakistan. So far, 202,913 houses have been constructed, with 118,088 completed and 53,233 under construction.
Bokhari highlighted that this project realizes the dream of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to provide homes for deserving and homeless people. In just two years, over 200,000 people have been given homes, with a goal of providing “Apni Chhat” to 500,000 within five years.
She noted that this award follows the "Suthra Punjab" project, signifying another global recognition of Punjab's governance and development projects initiated under Maryam Nawaz’s leadership. These initiatives are bringing international acclaim to both Punjab and Pakistan.
