UN Map Shows Arunachal Pradesh as Separate Region

The United Nations (UN) has released a new map that depicts Arunachal Pradesh as a separate region, sparking a diplomatic row between India and China.
According to an international report, the UN General Assembly voted in favor of changes to the world map on Friday. 164 countries, including France, the United Kingdom, and India, supported the map's updated geographical representation of Africa, while only the United States opposed it.
However, a significant departure from the existing map shows Arunachal Pradesh and Aksai Chin as distinct regions. New Delhi considers Arunachal Pradesh part of India and Aksai Chin as part of Ladakh.
The controversial map was initially unveiled in July during discussions related to a UN General Assembly resolution titled "Correct the Map." Interestingly, India had itself sponsored and supported the resolution.
The new map removes the border between Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland, presenting it as an independent state bordered by Assam and China. Aksai Chin is also shown separately, with India to its west and China to its east.
While the UN has not provided a reason for these changes, the "Correct the Map" resolution aims to ensure more accurate and fair geographical representations globally, especially in Africa. Although non-binding, the resolution is expected to influence standard mapping practices worldwide.
