US drone maker Powerus has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Pakistan Army and secured an initial drone order. The company, which has investments from the two sons of US President Donald Trump, declined to disclose the deal’s value and further details, citing security sensitivities and confidentiality terms, as reported by Reuters.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed the meeting between a Powerus delegation led by Bret Velikovich and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir. They discussed procurement and production of defence equipment and the enhancement of long-term capabilities.
Powerus specializes in maritime and aerial drones for military and industrial use. The company is also set to merge with Arius Greenway Holdings, a publicly traded company in which Trump sons Donald Jr. and Eric Trump have investments.
Bret Velikovich stated that Powerus aims to establish a joint technology partnership combining the best technical capabilities of the United States and Pakistan. He added that the company is exploring local technology manufacturing opportunities in Pakistan.
Powerus founder and CEO Andrew Fox addressed concerns about the involvement of President Trump's sons, stating that agreements were made on merit alone and Donald Trump Jr. had no connection with the business or the agreements. These claims were echoed by a spokesperson for Donald Trump Jr. and White House Press Secretary Anna Kelly.
The development follows improving diplomatic and defense ties between Washington and Islamabad. It comes after President Trump publicly praised Field Marshal Asim Munir, leading to several measures by Pakistan to strengthen economic, financial, and defense relations with the United States.
