Watch: Moment a robot attempts to beat Usain Bolt’s 100m record

BBC News reports on a remarkable achievement by a humanoid robot, named Lightning, developed by Chinese smartphone manufacturer Honor. The robot ran the 100-meter sprint in a staggering 9.32 seconds, thus breaking Usain Bolt’s world record set in 2009 (9.58 seconds).

Eight-time Olympic gold medalist Bolt’s record was previously considered untouchable. However, this thin black and red robot proved otherwise at the World Humanoid Robot Games in Beijing. The event featured various robotics competitions, including boxing, football, and even mundane household tasks like folding laundry. Over 2,000 robots from 16 countries participated, showcasing China’s significant investment in robotics.

More than 2,000 robots… are expected to compete… highlighting China’s heavy investment in robotics.

This achievement marks a significant milestone in the field of robotics and raises intriguing questions about the future potential of artificial athletes.
