The Situation in al-Mughayyir
The isolated Palestinian village of al-Mughayyir, located northeast of Ramallah, has witnessed a surge in settler violence. This has led to the installation of barbed-wire fencing around a local school to protect pupils. Six individuals, including three schoolchildren, have been killed in the village this year, with a notable incident involving 14-year-old Aws al-Naasan, who was shot dead by a settler outside the school gates in April.
Legal Context
All Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank are deemed illegal under international law. Similarly, many of the small, unauthorized settler outposts around al-Mughayyir are also illegal under Israeli law.
