Wheat Stocks Sufficient in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, No Shortage Feared: CM's Aide
PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - September 16, 2026) - Special Assistant to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister for food Dr. Muhammad Israr Khan stated on Wednesday that the province has sufficient wheat stocks and any potential wheat or flour shortage is unfounded.
He attributed a decline in wheat and flour prices to the provincial government's timely release of wheat and assured measures are in place to maintain supplies, ensuring further price stability. During his visit to Peshawar grain godown, Dr. Israr was informed that 16,000 metric tonnes of wheat procured from PASSCO were readily available, with an additional 4,000 metric tonnes en route.
Inspecting the stocks, he reviewed storage arrangements, quality control, and future supplies. He also examined the stock register, emphasizing proper maintenance and preservation of the wheat.
Dr. Israr emphasized that the government is closely monitoring wheat availability, distribution, and prices to ensure uninterrupted access to flour for consumers. He noted that restrictions on inter-provincial movement of wheat imposed by Punjab had affected wheat and flour prices in KP, adding that the provincial government was addressing this with both federal and Punjab governments.
Pledging continued efforts, Dr. Israr stated that the government would continue releasing wheat and taking other necessary measures to maintain adequate stocks and stabilize flour prices within the province.
