Anti-Littering Squad Launched to Crack Down on Open Waste Dumping

Faisalabad has launched a dedicated Anti-Littering Squad to promote cleaner streets and combat open littering and waste dumping from moving vehicles. The initiative was formally inaugurated by Divisional Commissioner Dr Imran Hamid Sheikh at the Municipal Corporation.

Present at the event were Managing Director Suthra Punjab Agency Abid Hussain Bhatti and Chief Officer Municipal Corporation Usman Ghani.

Dr Imran Hamid Sheikh explained that the squad would educate citizens about the harmful effects of open littering and enforce penalties for violators, utilizing surveillance cameras installed by the Safe City Authority. Violators caught on camera could face a fine of up to Rs50,000.

The Anti-Littering Squad is a joint initiative between Suthra Punjab Agency and Faisalabad Municipal Corporation. The Municipal Corporation provided electric bikes, while Suthra Punjab Agency supplied the human resources.

The divisional commissioner emphasized the need for both awareness and enforcement to keep Faisalabad clean, appealing to commercial establishments, shopkeepers, residents, and motorists to cooperate and dispose of waste properly.

The launch aims to strengthen monitoring and introduce a technology-assisted enforcement mechanism against a common practice of throwing waste from moving vehicles.
