Ban on Burning Rice Residue: DG Khan Commissioner Orders Action

Commissioner Ashfaq Ahmed Chaudhry has directed relevant departments to implement a ban on burning rice residue and take legal action against violators as part of efforts to combat smog and control environmental pollution.
According to a spokesperson, the commissioner issued these instructions during a meeting reviewing measures for smog prevention and environmental pollution control. The meeting focused on strategies to prevent smog, regulate air quality, discourage burning of rice residue, and raise awareness among farmers about environmental conservation.
Mehr Abid Hussain, Director Agriculture, presented steps being taken to manage smog and educate farmers about the adverse effects of burning rice residue.
Commissioner Chaudhry emphasized that rice harvesting had begun in the region, and burning crop residue during this process could exacerbate air pollution and smog. He instructed departments to guide farmers on alternative disposal and management methods for rice residue and promote environmental awareness.
The commissioner affirmed that a clean and healthy environment is a fundamental right of citizens, directing all concerned departments to collaborate under an effective strategy for pollution control and ensure strict adherence to government directives.
