Buildings Wing Completes Revamping of 1,740 BHUs, 28 Tertiary Care Hospitals
Punjab Minister for Communication and Works (C&W) Malik Sohaib Ahmed Bharth stated that the Buildings Wing has developed and revamped over 3,000 buildings belonging to 38 departments across Punjab in the last two-and-a-half years.
During a meeting to review the Buildings Wing's performance, held on Wednesday, he was joined by Secretary C&W Raja Jahangir Anwar, Additional Secretary, Special Secretary, Chief Engineers Buildings, and other senior officials.
The meeting highlighted the completion of development projects in health, education, and public safety sectors across Punjab, as well as schemes for police and prisons. Revamping projects involved prominent shrines, governance and administration, agriculture, industry, and tourism sectors.
Key achievements include:
- Revamping 1,740 Basic Health Units (BHUs)
- Completing the revamping of 28 major tertiary care hospitals
- Developing infrastructure for 22 special education centers and constructing a state-of-the-art autism school
- Building 50 smart police stations and completing 22 judiciary-related schemes
- Conducting safety assessments of 1,033 buildings across the province
Through e-tendering, the Buildings Wing achieved savings of Rs40 billion. The Architecture Wing designed major projects in the province.
Malik Sohaib Ahmed Bharth directed the Buildings Wing to publish annual performance reports and emphasized their strong and integrated infrastructure system. He also instructed them to formulate a comprehensive plan for further modernizing the department under the leadership of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
