Federal board of Revenue (FBR) Domain Team held an online meeting with the leadership and members of the Karachi Tax Bar Association (KTBA) on Monday to discuss income tax return design and ways to enhance the taxpayer experience. The meeting was part of FBR’s stakeholder consultation process, ensuring digital systems meet taxpayer needs.

KTBA Appreciates FBR’s Efforts

Mehmood Bikiya, President KTBA, praised FBR for their quick response in organizing the meeting and acknowledged the team’s work on developing a dynamic and user-friendly return system. The discussion focused on practical suggestions and clarifications, with no significant technical issues identified.

Policy Matters and Suggestions for Improvement

KTBA shared views on refund applications, deemed assessment orders, and return revisions. FBR clarified that these matters fall under existing policies and referred them to the Policy Wing for further consideration. Both parties agreed on continued coordination to align filing experiences with taxpayer expectations.

The KTBA offered several constructive suggestions for future return iterations, including:

  • Enabling Excel file uploads for simplified data entry.
  • Reviewing the requirement to input financial data in subsequent returns.
  • Adding a system-generated PDF explaining residence status provisions.

Live Demonstrations and Clarifications

FBR’s team demonstrated how to track investment in immovable property, add business capital, declare tax under relevant sections, and record inheritance property, clarifying optional inputs like vehicle chassis numbers. These demonstrations resolved queries and showcased the system’s functionality.
