First Pacemaker Successfully Implanted at Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cardiology, Sargodha

SARGODHA, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 20th Aug, 2026) A major milestone in cardiac care has been achieved in Sargodha with the successful implantation of a pacemaker for the first time at the Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cardiology (NSIC) Sargodha.

According to the hospital administration, the procedure was performed by Dr. Awais, Head of the Cardiology Department, along with his medical team. This development signifies an important step towards providing advanced treatment to patients suffering from heart rhythm and electrical conduction disorders in the Sargodha division.

Dr. Awais explained that a pacemaker is a medical device used for patients whose heartbeat becomes abnormally slow or whose heart’s natural electrical system does not function properly. It helps regulate the heartbeat and maintain an appropriate heart rate.

The NSIC administration announced that pacemaker implantation services have now begun at the institute, with plans to introduce additional facilities for cardiac electrophysiology and the implantation of different types of pacemakers in phases.

This successful procedure followed the inauguration of the institute’s Electrophysiology Cath Lab, marking the beginning of practical cardiac electrophysiology services at the facility.

Citizens welcomed this development, stating that the availability of pacemaker implantation and other advanced cardiac services in Sargodha will provide patients with complex heart rhythm disorders closer access to specialized treatment. It is also expected to reduce the need for patients to travel to major cities for advanced cardiac care.
