PESHAWAR, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – August 21, 2026)
Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Faisal Karim Kundi, highlighted the need for modern equipment, technology, and additional resources for the provincial police force on Friday. He stated that while the police play a frontline role in maintaining peace, they face extraordinary security challenges, particularly terrorism.
During an interactive session with a 33-member delegation of Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) from Sindh Police, who are undergoing training at the National Police Academy, Kundi expressed his appreciation for the growing participation of women officers in the police service.
The Governor noted that while KP Police has been at the forefront of the war against terrorism, they still require modern weaponry, additional bulletproof vehicles, and advanced technology to counter emerging threats like quadcopter attacks by militants. He mentioned that recommendations for improving police salaries have already been forwarded to the provincial government.
Kundi addressed multiple security challenges faced by the province due to its long border with Afghanistan, emphasizing the vital role played by the Pakistan Army and FC in border security. He stressed the need for full support to all law enforcement agencies in their fight against terrorism.
In response to a question, Kundi condemned terrorism originating from Afghan soil against Pakistan, citing evidence of involvement by some Afghan nationals in terrorist incidents within the province. He also mentioned ongoing repatriation efforts for illegal Afghan nationals.
The Governor highlighted Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s economic potential, including significant reserves of oil, gas, and minerals, as well as opportunities for tourism that could attract investment once peace is restored. He expressed difficulties in meeting development needs due to unfulfilled financial commitments, notably the promised annual allocation of Rs100 billion for merged districts.
Discussing education and health, Kundi noted a lack of major public hospitals or sports stadiums established in the province over the past 13 years and criticized politically motivated appointments in universities that have negatively impacted the education sector.
He also touched on regional security, acknowledging Pakistan’s successful response to Indian aggression last year and praising the country’s civil and military leadership for promoting peace.
