A humanoid robot clocked an impressive 9.39 seconds during the opening ceremony of the second edition of the World Humanoid Robot Games in Beijing, surpassing the men’s 100m world record of 9.58 seconds held by Usain Bolt since 2009.
World Humanoid Robot Games Unveiled
The Games, featuring 51 events across various disciplines, witnessed a surge in participation, with 666 teams and 2,056 humanoid robots from around the globe, marking a 138% increase from the previous year.
Unconventional Events Test Robot Abilities
Beyond athletics and football, the Games introduced weightlifting, tug-of-war, and table tennis, challenging robots’ physical capabilities and core components. Scenario-based competitions aimed to simulate real-world applications, covering sectors like logistics, hospitality, and household services.
A Growing Trend in Robot Innovation
The Games build upon previous achievements, such as a humanoid robot from Shenzhen Honor Smart Technology Development Co., Ltd. setting a half-marathon record in April. The "Ice Ribbon" at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics now hosts another showcase of advancements in humanoid robotics.
