I Have Given Up; I Rarely Talk About Judicial Independence, Says Reema Omar

Analyst Reema Omar questioned the salaries and perks of Supreme Court and Constitutional Court judges, arguing that these institutions are being used for political purposes and control while the poor struggle.
"Look at the salaries and perks of the judges of the Supreme Court and Constitutional Court," she stated. "The poor people of the country are struggling, while institutions are being run for political purposes and control."
She expressed her frustration, stating: "I have given up. I now rarely talk about judicial independence and human rights because it has become a joke in this country." She highlighted the doubling of judges in the Supreme Court and the creation of another Constitutional Court as examples of this issue.
"Look at the cost of running these two courts and how much of the budget goes into them," she said. "In a poor country whose people are struggling, these institutions are being operated and people are continuously being appointed to serve political objectives and maintain control. How public money is being used is a separate case study."
Her comments come in the context of recent legal developments, including contempt of court petitions against the government's decision regarding former Prime Minister Imran Khan's medical treatment and the Supreme Court's clarification on jurisdiction between the Constitutional Court and itself.
