Negotiated Outcome Only Sustainable Solution To Regional Conflicts: DG ISPR
ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Sep, 2026) Director General (DG) Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, while reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace, stability and dialogue, emphasized that negotiated solutions remain the only sustainable way to address complex regional conflicts.
In an interview with international English-language news channel Al Arabiya, the DG ISPR stated that Pakistan would continue its efforts to facilitate a negotiated and peaceful resolution to the conflict between Iran and the United States. Pakistan had assumed a mediating role as it remains dedicated to regional peace and stability, he added, explaining that Islamabad’s objective is to prevent the conflict from escalating and spreading across the region.
"Pakistan is a big proponent of peace in the region," he said, further stating that Islamabad’s policy of multi-alignment and engagement with countries worldwide positions it as an “objective” and “honest broker” for peace.
The DG ISPR noted that mediation requires neutrality and objectivity, particularly in a conflict rooted in decades of mistrust and complex disputes. He expressed that Pakistan’s political and military leadership has been engaging with all parties to promote a negotiated outcome instead of a military solution.
Ahmed Sharif highlighted Pakistan’s longstanding relations with both Washington and Tehran, enabling it to interact with both sides without prioritizing one relationship over the other. He characterized Pakistan’s ties with the United States as historical and its relationship with Iran as “brotherly, neighbourly, and strategic”.
"Pakistan has no personal or own objective in this dispute," he said, emphasizing Islamabad’s primary concern is to stop the conflict from escalating both horizontally and vertically. He stressed Pakistan’s preference for resolving differences through negotiations rather than military action.
The DG ISPR clarified that Pakistan’s relations with other countries, such as China, are based on mutual benefit and are independent of one another.
"We have independent relations with multiple countries, multiple poles, multiple powers in this world," he said.
Regarding the Pak-Saudi-Türkiye defence agreement, the DG ISPR dismissed suggestions that it could complicate Pakistan’s stance towards Iran. He explained that the agreement formalizes decades-old strategic, political, and military ties among the three nations. The arrangement, he stressed, is defensive in nature, with no aggressive or regional aspirations.
"There is nothing aggressive, there are no regional aspirations," the DG ISPR remarked.
