I won FPL last season – here are my five best tips

Want to win your Fantasy Premier League (FPL) mini-league but need some expert advice? Meet Erik Ibsen, the 23-year-old Danish medical student who finished first overall despite never playing the game before.

In between his summer exams, Everton fan Ibsen has planned his entire chip and transfer strategy for the upcoming season, crediting a laid-back approach and using his own research as key to success.

Tips from Erik Ibsen, FPL Champion

  1. Consistency is Key:

"The biggest thing is being consistent," says Ibsen. "A lot of people have one bad week and give up. I didn’t start well, but stayed patient."

  2. Find Budget ‘Enablers’:

Focus on cheap players who contribute defensively (defcon) while allowing you to include more expensive superstars. Pascal Gross is a good example.

  3. Be Ruthless, Not Emotional:

While it’s fun to pick your favorite players, do extra research if you want to be competitive. Don’t just choose based on sentimentality.
