Jamaat-e-Islami Demands Complete Abolition of Interest

The Constitution mandates the abolition of interest, but the government should explain its efforts toward this goal, said Hafiz Naeemur Rehman at a press conference in Karachi.
Addressing the gathering, he criticized the Monetary Committee for retaining the interest rate the previous day, terming it a "crime." He argued that Pakistanis are burdened by loans, while the government remains reluctant to reduce the policy rate.
Hafiz Naeemur Rehman urged the government to rectify its policies and lower the policy rate. He also advocated for cutting extravagant spending and presenting the government’s accounts to the nation, pointing out excessive spending on meetings and stays in luxurious hotels.
He claimed that the petroleum levy is the only way to stop the ongoing march and that abolishing it would address the financial concerns of the poor. The government, he accused, uses the levy to cover its corruption at the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).
