Boxing: The Verbal Sparring Between Joshua and Fury

By Kal Sajad, BBC Sport boxing journalist

Published 7 minutes ago

Tyson Fury has sparked a war of words with fellow heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua, suggesting their highly anticipated fight "doesn’t look like it’s going to happen". In a series of Instagram stories, Fury criticized Joshua and his promoter, Eddie Hearn, over contract negotiations.

The pair had agreed to a November bout, one of the biggest in British boxing history. However, uncertainty over the venue has cast doubt on the deal. Joshua and Hearn have signed a contract for the fight to take place in the UK, while Saudi Arabia, who own the promotion rights, are pushing for a move to the United States.

Fury stated:

"Doesn’t look like they’re going to sign the fight and it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen all because Eddie Hearn and that want more money."

Joshua and Hearn’s main dispute revolves around tax implications and compensation for Joshua, with New York’s Madison Square Garden being the preferred venue for Saudi organizers to cater to American audiences. Hearn claims the main change requested involves adjusting Joshua’s compensation due to different tax regulations.

Fury responded with a scathing attack, calling Joshua and Hearn "disgusting" and "money-thirsty". He further accused Hearn of being a "bag carrier" and criticized Joshua’s mindset.

"I’ll move on and fight somebody else but just know you never had the guts to fight Tyson Fury, ever, you little coward."

Hearn, however, remains optimistic, stating they have sent a list of addendums to the Saudi organizers, which covers practical aspects like travel, accreditation, and media arrangements. He confirmed that these issues were distinct from those leaked to the media.
