Kyrgios Suspended After Positive Cocaine Test
By Amy Lofthouse BBC Sport senior journalist

Nick Kyrgios has been provisionally suspended from tennis after testing positive for cocaine.
An Australian, Kyrgios submitted a sample during the Mallorca Open on 22 June that later contained benzoylecgonine, a metabolite of cocaine. He has been suspended since 4 August by the International Tennis Integrity Agency.
In a post on Instagram, Kyrgios acknowledged his mistake, saying:
"I made a huge mistake and take full responsibility for it."
Under the suspension, Kyrgios cannot play, coach, or attend Grand Slams or any events sanctioned by the men’s and women’s tennis tours until the outcome of a tribunal.
The 31-year-old has played only four singles matches this season, dealing with knee and wrist injuries.
In a lengthy Instagram statement, Kyrgios expressed the struggles of his career:
"Coming to terms with being near the end of my career has been harder than I ever imagined."
He also promised to step away from social media and public life for 28 days to focus on his recovery.
Cocaine is classified as a stimulant and substance of abuse on the World Anti-Doping Agency’s prohibited list. However, reduced sanctions apply for out-of-competition testing positives.
Kyrgios’ sample was taken during a tournament where he played singles, ultimately losing in the first round.
He concluded his statement by apologizing to his fans, family, sponsors, and "above all, to the kids who follow me."
