Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar on Wednesday stated that successful negotiations with oil refineries had led to a reduction of approximately Rs32 per litre in diesel prices, offering substantial relief to the public.

Speaking alongside Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik, he revealed that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had chaired a meeting earlier in the day, discussing the matter with the petroleum minister, petroleum secretary, and relevant officials. The PM directed negotiations to ensure any potential relief was passed on to consumers.

Tarar informed that the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) would soon announce the reduction. He acknowledged the petroleum minister’s efforts in making these negotiations successful.

Highlighting the local production of a significant portion of diesel, he noted that this reduction would particularly benefit farmers, goods transport, and public transport, all of which heavily rely on diesel.

The minister addressed the challenges faced by people due to rising global oil prices following the ongoing war situation. He emphasized the government’s awareness of these difficulties and its previous subsidies and targeted subsidies to prevent petrol price increases during challenging times.

Describing the diesel price reduction as a major relief for citizens, Tarar stated it would lessen their burden and positively impact the broader economy. He added that further positive news was expected in the coming days.
