Minister Salman Reviews Measures To Tackle Monsoon Rains, Floods, Urban Flooding
LAHORE, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 20th Aug, 2026) On the directions of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, an important meeting was held under the chairmanship of Provincial Minister and Chairman Cabinet Committee for Disaster Management, Khawaja Salman Rafique, which reviewed in detail the arrangements and preparations to deal with monsoon rains and possible flood situation.
DG PDMA Muhammad Saif Anwar Jappa participated in the meeting through video link and gave a briefing on the steps taken to deal with monsoon rains. Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners of Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, and Sargodha divisions, MD WASA Lahore and Gujranwala, Chief Engineers and Executive Engineers of the Irrigation Department also participated via video link. The meeting reviewed the measures to prevent river erosion, reduce flood risks, and deal with urban flooding. Preparations to deal with possible risks of extreme heat and drought were also considered.
Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique said that under the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, continuous steps are being taken to make Punjab safe from floods. He stated that the situation is under control across the province, the flow of water in all rivers is normal, and the situation is being continuously monitored. He emphasized that rescue agencies have been equipped with modern equipment at a cost of billions of rupees. This year too, vigorous steps are being taken in anticipation of urban flooding and river flooding.
DG PDMA Muhammad Saif Anwar Jappa informed that arrangements before and after disasters are being made more effective. PDMA maintains constant contact with the Punjab district administration. He assured immediate rescue and relief operations in any emergency situation.
