Medical Superintendent of the Divisional Headquarters and Teaching Hospital Mirpur, Raja Ejaz Ahmad, has suspended several employees with immediate effect over alleged negligence and dereliction of duty in the hospital’s emergency department and ordered a formal inquiry to fix responsibility, officials said on Tuesday.
The Medical Superintendent personally reviewed the situation in the emergency ward and initiated disciplinary action against the concerned staff for alleged lapses in patient care and shortcomings in the provision of medical facilities.
“Patients come to hospitals expecting proper treatment, care, and protection of their health," Raja Ejaz Ahmad told APP, "adding that negligence in medical care would not be tolerated under any circumstances."
He directed the hospital staff to treat patients courteously and ensure the timely provision of healthcare services. He emphasized that providing prompt, effective, and quality medical facilities remained the top priority of the hospital administration, warning that negligence in official duties would invite strict action according to rules and regulations.
He further stated that doctors, paramedical staff, and other employees performing their duties with dedication, honesty, and sincerity would continue to be encouraged.
"Ensuring the best possible treatment and care for patients, in line with government directives," he said, "is an important national and humanitarian responsibility." He added that complaints received from patients would be examined seriously and effective action taken against those found responsible for negligence. He also mentioned measures being strengthened to ensure discipline, effective monitoring, staff accountability, and improved patient care across all departments of the hospital.
