ISLAMABAD, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 17th Aug, 2026)
Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan on Monday assured goods transporters that no unjustified challans would be issued by the Motorway Police, while stressing strict compliance with axle-load, speed, and other prescribed traffic regulations.
Addressing a reception hosted by the All Pakistan Goods Transporters Alliance in his honor following the successful conclusion of negotiations between the government and transporters, the Federal Minister said all commitments made to the transporters would be fulfilled at all costs, according to a press release.
The transporters accorded a warm welcome to Abdul Aleem Khan upon his arrival at the reception, showering flower petals and chanting slogans in his support. Malik Shehzad Awan, President of the Goods Transporters Alliance, presented him a traditional Sindhi Ajrak and thanked the government for accepting their demands.
Addressing the reception, Abdul Aleem Khan stated that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had assigned him the special task of chairing the Committee constituted to resolve the transporters’ issues, which had successfully completed its mandate.
He appreciated the sincerity and sense of responsibility demonstrated by the leadership of the Goods Transporters Alliance. Describing the successful negotiations as a highly commendable development, he noted that they continued for 9 days, with discussions held for several hours each day.
The Federal Minister for Communications emphasized the crucial role transporters play in the national economy and the importance of their cooperation for the country’s development. He assured the transporters that not a single unjustified challan would be allowed by the Motorway Police. Stating that a vehicle should only be penalized if it violates traffic rules, he added that adherence to prescribed limits regarding vehicle weight, speed, and other regulations would be strictly enforced.
He urged transporters to comply with the axle-load policy, highlighting that adhering to the prescribed limits is in their own interest. He noted that exceeding the permissible weight damages vehicles and causes significant losses to roads.
Abdul Aleem Khan emphasized that the government takes decisions in the best interest of the country and ensures their effective implementation. He expressed his willingness to personally review transporters’ problems on the roads if necessary and directed the Secretary Communications, Chairman NHA, and Inspector General of Motorways Police to visit highways and assess transporters’ issues on-site for the identification of suitable solutions.
