Pakistan Reiterates Resolve To Combat Terrorism, Calls For Global Support To Victims
Pakistan on Friday reiterated its unwavering resolve to combat terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, saying the country had rendered unprecedented sacrifices in blood and treasure in the fight against the global menace. In a statement issued by the Foreign Office on the International Day of Remembrance of and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism, Pakistan noted that more than 90,000 Pakistanis had lost their lives while the nation had suffered economic losses exceeding US$150 billion in its ongoing battle against terrorism.
"Pakistan joins nations across the world in observing the International Day of Remembrance of and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism," the statement said, emphasizing that this day provides an opportunity not only to remember the victims but also to honor the sacrifices of their families and renew the commitment to vigilance against terrorism.
The statement highlighted how terrorism has evolved, becoming multi-faceted with terrorists leveraging emerging technologies and cyberspace for more sophisticated and lethal attacks. Pakistan also faces disinformation campaigns, hydro-terrorism, and extraterritorial assassination attempts.
"2025 has been among the deadliest Pakistan has faced over a decade," it noted, attributing rising violence to cross-border sanctuaries often supported by hostile elements from neighboring countries. The statement condemned attacks targeting worshippers, children, women, and security personnel indiscriminately.
Despite these challenges, Pakistan remains steadfast in its fight against terrorism in all forms. On this occasion, Pakistan also expressed solidarity with the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), enduring systemic state repression, and with Palestine, where despite ceasefires and diplomatic efforts, Palestinians continue to face severe human rights violations.
"Foreign occupation, unresolved conflicts, and denial of self-determination are exploited by extremists and terrorists," the statement concluded.
