Policy Change, Don’t Punish Students: LHC Bars Punjab Medical Colleges From Expelling Afghan Students

Lahore (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 11th Sep, 2026) The Lahore High Court has barred all medical colleges in Punjab from expelling Afghan students and cancelling their examinations. The court stated that no Afghan medical student would be expelled and no examination paper would be cancelled.
During the hearing of petitions against the expulsion of Afghan medical students, the lawyer for the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) argued that the students lacked valid legal documents.
Justice Khalid Ishaq remarked, "How were educational visas issued when the students were admitted? Four years of their lives have been wasted, and now they are being sent back?"
The court questioned whether the PMDC had received any order to issue the notification. It noted that the students should have been given an opportunity to be heard before expulsion.
The court further stated, "When these students were being favoured, it was publicised around the world; now the policy has changed?" The PMDC lawyer maintained that it was a global principle that no one could remain in a country without a valid visa.
The court responded, "Until yesterday, these students were favoured, and today the policy has changed. You might as well give these students the death sentence."
The court adjourned further proceedings on the petition until next Friday.
