A sub-national polio vaccination campaign kicked off on Monday in selected districts across Pakistan, targeting around 31 million children under five for polio drops. According to the National Emergency Operations Centre (EOC), the initiative is being implemented in 115 districts, with over 273,000 polio workers deployed to reach children at their homes and other designated sites.
In Punjab, approximately 10.6 million children in 13 selected districts will receive vaccinations, while 10 million children in 30 districts of Sindh are part of the campaign. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 7.3 million children in 37 selected districts will be vaccinated, and 2.3 million children in 32 districts of Balochistan are also included. Islamabad will see around 447,000 vaccinations, with an additional 137,000 targeted in two selected districts of Gilgit-Baltistan.
The National EOC has appealed to parents to fully cooperate with polio teams, ensuring every child under five receives the necessary polio drops. Polio workers will visit households, even those in remote areas, to achieve maximum coverage.
