Prince Harry and Meghan Moving Back to UK Later This Month

BBC News understands that Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, are planning to move back to the UK later this month from their current residence in the US. They intend to relocate to a private, non-royal residence outside London, as first reported by the Daily Telegraph and the Sun.

The couple’s children, Prince Archie (7) and Princess Lilibet (5), are enrolled to start at a British school in September. King Charles was informed of this decision on Sunday. There are no plans for Harry or Meghan to resume their roles as working royals, and they will remain private individuals.

The Prince and Princess of Wales have also been made aware of the Sussexes’ plans. The family’s relationship had been strained since their departure from the UK in early 2020, but a recent visit to Highgrove, the King’s Gloucestershire home, marked a positive step.

The Sussexes left California and settled there in March 2020, prior to which they stepped back from their royal duties. Their July visit to meet the King and Queen Camilla was described as a "private family occasion." It was their first time together since Prince Harry attended Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in 2022.

Security has been a point of contention, with concerns over the couple’s safety while in the UK. A Home Office spokesperson stated that decisions on royal security are taken by the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures (Ravec), and the UK’s protective security system is "rigorous and proportionate."

Prince Harry has expressed previous safety concerns, which have prevented him from visiting the UK with his family. With their return, he will be closer to hosting the Invictus Games in Birmingham next year, an event he promotes passionately.
