Russia Launches ‘Massive Attack’ on Kyiv, Killing at Least Eight
BBC News reports that Russia has unleashed a wave of overnight missile strikes on Kyiv and the surrounding region, resulting in at least eight deaths and 33 injuries, according to Ukrainian authorities.
Apartment blocks and warehouses were targeted in what the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (DSNS) described as a "massive attack" on Thursday.
Authorities are working to rescue anyone trapped under rubble, with crews already successfully extracting two survivors from the debris.
Meanwhile, Romania reported a drone crossing into its territory near the Ukrainian border, triggering an air alert siren. The drone crashed, causing a small fire that was quickly extinguished.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko revealed that a children’s hospital was among the targets, suffering broken windows and nearby car fires. An industrial center in the Solomyanskyi district was also hit.
The Polish military has initiated "defensive air operations" to safeguard its airspace, given its shared border with Ukraine.
The Russian airstrikes left parts of the Kyiv region in darkness due to power outages, with technicians striving to restore the damaged energy grids.
In recent weeks, Kyiv has endured nearly nightly attacks, resulting in numerous deaths and injuries. Over a dozen regions across Ukraine have been targeted, with President Volodymyr Zelensky stating that Russia has launched more than 1,550 attack drones, 1,560 guided aerial bombs, and 62 missiles against Ukraine in the past week alone.
Ukraine has intensified its counterattacks against Russia, targeting logistics centers, including one belonging to the online retailer Wildberries.
