Yemen’s Ansarullah has released a video showing the wreckage of a Saudi F-15 fighter jet shot down in the Marib Governorate. The Saudi flag can also be seen prominently on the warplane in the video.
According to a post shared on X, Yemen’s Ansarullah released footage of the wreckage of the Saudi F-15 fighter jet brought down in Marib.
Saudi Arabia purchased an F-15 fighter jet from the United States for $350 million under an agreement reached with Washington in 2011. However, Saudi Arabia has not yet officially confirmed that an F-15 jet was shot down.
Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree said the Saudi warplane was targeted with a locally manufactured missile. He stated that the aircraft was present in Marib’s airspace during Saudi military operations in Yemen.
Earlier, the armed forces of Yemen’s Houthi rebels had claimed a major military success in Yemeni airspace, saying they had successfully shot down an advanced Saudi F-15 fighter jet.
According to international broadcaster Al Jazeera, Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree issued a detailed statement confirming that Saudi coalition’s jet had been targeted and destroyed during an operation in the airspace over Yemen’s Marib Province. He said the aircraft had been carrying out offensive operations in support of military advances and operations in the area.
Saree stated that in response to the ongoing “brutal aggression” against Yemen and its innocent people, the Yemeni armed forces had shot down the Saudi F-15. He emphasized that no foreign defence system was used; instead, the achievement was accomplished entirely through a modern, locally developed surface-to-air missile.
