ADC Holds Meeting to Mark International Day 'Victims of Acts of Violence Based on Religion'

Additional Deputy Commissioner-I (ADC) Mohammad Faizan Cheema chaired a high-level meeting at the DC’s office Shikarpur on Saturday to mark the International Day commemorating Victims of Acts of Violence Based on Religion or Belief.

The event was organized by the Social Welfare Department, said a press release.

Speaking on the occasion, Additional Director Social Welfare Deen Muhammad Sheikh said the purpose of observing the day was to express solidarity with all people who had suffered hatred, intolerance, and violence based on their religion or belief. He added that the occasion also aimed to promote religious harmony, tolerance, and respect for human rights.

ADC Cheema stated that Shikarpur had maintained an atmosphere of peace, brotherhood, and tolerance, with all religious communities living together peacefully and standing united against hatred and violence.

Religious scholars and representatives of various religious groups expressed their solidarity and commitment to promoting peace and harmony. They emphasized the importance of understanding and dialogue in resolving community issues and noted the successful passage of Muharram and the ongoing spirit of harmony during Rabi-ul-Awwal.

Leaders of the Hindu community echoed these sentiments, highlighting their support and cooperation from other religious groups during festivals and community programs. They also stressed the regular support and peaceful relations among different communities.

Ram Singh, a Sikh community leader, affirmed that the people of Shikarpur embraced peace, brotherhood, and tolerance. He described the district as peaceful and noted the absence of religious violence, with communities continuing their collaborative efforts to uphold peace.

The meeting, attended by religious leaders, the District Child Protection Officer, SRSO representatives, Bridge consultant Foundation NGO, civil society representatives, minority community members, social organization leaders, Social Welfare Department officials, and other stakeholders, concluded with a special prayer for Pakistan's security, peace, and prosperity.
