Digital Transformation Gains Pace in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is rapidly advancing on the path of digital transformation, with technology-driven reforms being implemented to enhance public service delivery, increase transparency, improve revenue collection, and strengthen governance.

Provincial Government’s Initiatives

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Khan Afridi, the provincial government is translating the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) vision into tangible actions. These initiatives aim to create job opportunities for the youth, boost the economy, and establish a modern, transparent, and citizen-centric governance system.

Digital Integration in Public Services

Digital platforms are now an integral part of public services, revenue collection, payments, and government processes in the province. The Cashless KP initiative has facilitated digital transactions worth Rs 6.8 billion across the province as of March this year. Additionally, Rs 4.3 billion in revenue was collected through digital channels during the same period.

Employable Digital Skills Training

Efforts to equip young people with marketable skills have resulted in 870 youth from merged districts completing training in employable digital skills.

Digitization of Public Services

The government has mapped 795 public services for end-to-end digital delivery, and 800 services are currently undergoing business process re-engineering for digital redesign. The KP Information Technology Board (KPITB) has digitalized 462 services, with 219 fully operational on Cashless KP platforms.

FinTech Unit’s Achievements

The KPITB FinTech Unit has digitalized 149 services, exceeding its target of 133, and has made significant progress in digitizing payment services, achieving 112% of the set target.

Connectivity and Paperwork Reduction

Thirty-four provincial departments have been connected with Cashless KP under agreements with the State Bank of Pakistan and 1LINK. The provincial government aims to reduce paperwork in digital government services by 70 percent by December 2026.

Research and Innovation Programs

Under the Frontiers in Science program, research grants of up to Rs 40 million are available per consortium. The KPITB AI Innovation Hub 2026-2028 program is planned for a two-year period.

These initiatives, led by Chief Minister Afridi, aim to establish a modern governance system where technology is utilized not just for digitization but to streamline public services, making them faster, more efficient, and easily accessible to citizens.
