Ethiopia and Pakistan Agree to Boost Agricultural Cooperation
Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (FDRE) and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan have agreed to strengthen their bilateral cooperation in the agriculture sector, focusing on enhancing trade, investment, and technology transfer, as well as promoting food security and livestock development.
This decision was made during a meeting held at the Ministry of National Food Security and Research, Islamabad, between Dr. Oumer Hussien Oba, the Ethiopian Ambassador, and Rana Tanveer Hussain, the Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research.

- Agro-Pact: The meeting explored the possibility of an agro-pact to institutionalize agricultural collaboration between the two countries, facilitating the exchange of knowledge and expertise.
- Ethiopia’s Green Legacy Initiative: The Ethiopian Ambassador highlighted this initiative, which aims to drive sustainable development through agricultural growth, food security, climate resilience, and a green economy. He expressed Ethiopia’s willingness to share its expertise with Pakistan.
- COP32 Preparation: The Ambassador also informed the Federal Minister about Ethiopia’s preparations to host COP32 in Addis Ababa in 2027.
- Pakistani Expertise: The Federal Minister emphasized Pakistan’s capabilities in agricultural research, modern farming technologies, machinery, irrigation, livestock, and agro-processing. He offered to share this knowledge with Ethiopia and invited Ethiopian agricultural entrepreneurs to explore investment opportunities in Pakistan.
- Cooperation Expansion: Both countries agreed to expand cooperation in crop productivity, seed development, climate-resilient agriculture, and mechanization.
