First Meeting of Cabinet Committee on Asset Management Authority Punjab Held

LAHORE, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 17th Aug, 2026) The first meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Asset Management Authority Punjab (AMAP) was held under the chairmanship of Punjab Finance Minister Mian Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman. Provincial Minister for Agriculture Syed Muhammad Ashiq Hussain Shah, Minister for Transport and Mass Transit Bilal Akbar Khan, Provincial Minister for Education Rana Sikandar Hayat, and Minister for Irrigation Muhammad Kazim Pirzada, along with senior officers of relevant departments, attended the meeting.

The meeting reviewed the available information regarding identified government assets, their nature, and the proposed mechanism for their transfer to AMAP’s management.

Finance Minister Mian Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman stated that Punjab’s government assets are a public trust, and ensuring their effective, transparent, and productive utilization is the government’s responsibility. He noted that establishing the Asset Management Authority aims to bring provincial assets under a structured and modern management system, enhancing their actual economic potential and public utility.

He emphasized that government asset management should not solely focus on revenue generation but rather safeguard their value, utility, and public interest. The minister suggested determining the best use of each asset based on its nature, existing utilization, legal status, and economic potential.

Mian Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman highlighted that all government assets should not be treated similarly; instead, individual characteristics should guide asset examinations. Decisions regarding assets would consider complete information, departmental requirements, applicable laws, and the broader public interest.

He stated that the Punjab government is pursuing reforms to promote effective resource utilization, fiscal discipline, and transparent governance. Effective management of provincial assets is a crucial component of this agenda, and AMAP will develop a system for improved recording, monitoring, and transparent decision-making.

The minister added that better utilization of unused or underutilized government assets could create new economic opportunities for the province while adhering to applicable laws, rules, regulations, and transparent procedures.
