German Envoy, Punjab Governor Discuss Expanding Bilateral Cooperation

German Ambassador to Pakistan, Ina Lepel, called on Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan at Governor’s House here on Saturday. They discussed ways to further strengthen cooperation between Pakistan and Germany in various fields, particularly education and trade.
During the meeting, the governor thanked the German government for appreciating Pakistan’s civil and military leadership for its role in maintaining peace and de-escalating tensions during the US-Iran conflict. He stated that Pakistan’s efforts as a mediator had received international recognition.
Sardar Saleem Haider Khan emphasized Pakistan’s strong advocacy for global peace and its consistent pursuit of peaceful conflict resolution. He noted that the civil and military leadership’s efforts to de-escalate tensions between the United States and Iran had been globally acknowledged.
He expressed concern over how the tension between Iran and the United States negatively impacted the global economy, including Pakistan. "War is not the solution to problems; sustainable peace can only be achieved through negotiations," he said.
The governor thanked the German government for its support for Pakistan’s GSP Plus status and expressed hope that Germany would continue to back Pakistan in retaining this facility. He stressed the need to expand bilateral cooperation, particularly in education and trade, and called for measures to increase imports and exports between the two countries.
Highlighting collaboration in education, the governor noted the strong international reputation of German universities. A significant number of Pakistani students pursue higher education in Germany, and he proposed launching student exchange programs between the two nations. He also urged the German ambassador to promote awareness among Pakistani students about admission opportunities at public-sector universities in Germany.
Ambassador Ina Lepel expressed her commitment to further strengthening Pakistan-Germany relations in various sectors, including education, trade and agriculture.
