Heavy Rains Forecast In Upper Parts; Urban Flooding, Landslides Feared

Weather Update

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted rain-wind/thunderstorms for:

  • Islamabad
  • Pothohar region
  • Upper Punjab
  • Kashmir
  • Upper and central Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
  • Gilgit-Baltistan

on Thursday, with heavy rainfall expected at several locations.

According to the Met Office‘s weather forecast issued on Wednesday, hot and humid conditions will prevail across most of the country.

The Met Office has warned that:

  • Urban flooding in low-lying areas could occur in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, as well as Mardan, Swabi, Peshawar, Nowshera, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, and Lahore.
  • Flash flooding in local nullahs is likely in Kashmir, Murree, Galiyat, Islamabad, and Rawalpindi.
  • Landslides are a possibility in hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, Galiyat, and Kashmir during the forecast period.

In Islamabad and surrounding areas, cloudy weather with rain-wind/thunderstorms and heavy falls is anticipated.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, rain-wind/thunderstorms are expected in several districts, including Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Khyber, Bajaur, Mohmand, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Peshawar, Hangu, Orakzai, Karak, Kurram, Kohat, and Waziristan. Heavy rainfall is predicted in Abbottabad, Haripur, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, and Peshawar, while hot and humid weather will dominate elsewhere.

In Punjab, rain-wind/thunderstorms are anticipated in Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Talagang, Gujrat, Jhelum, Mangla, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura, and Okara. Heavy falls are expected in the Pothohar region, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, and Sheikhupura. Evening/night rain-wind/thunderstorms are also likely in Sargodha, Mianwali, Bhakkar, Khushab, Chiniot, Faisalabad, and Dera Ghazi Khan.

Hot and humid weather is expected to persist in most parts of Punjab.

In Sindh, hot and humid conditions will prevail across most districts, with partly cloudy skies in the south.

In Balochistan, hot and humid weather is expected most districts, while rain/thunderstorms are predicted during the evening/night in Barkhan, Zhob, Musakhel, and Khuzdar.

Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan can expect partly cloudy weather with rain-wind/thunderstorms and heavy falls.

Recent Weather Activity:

Widespread rain-wind/thunderstorms occurred in Rawalpindi and Islamabad during the past 24 hours, with scattered rainfall reported in the Pothohar region, upper Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Kashmir. Heavy falls were recorded, while hot and humid conditions prevailed elsewhere.
