Musiala Collapses During Match for Second Time
By Alex Brotherton (BBC Sport journalist) | Published 18 August 2026
Bayern Munich midfielder Jamal Musiala has revealed he is being treated for a "neurological dysfunction" after collapsing during a match for the second time in four days.
On Tuesday, Musiala suffered a collapse six minutes after coming off the bench in Bayern’s 4-2 friendly victory at Heidenheim. The 23-year-old appeared dazed as he received medical treatment and was helped off the pitch.
This incident followed his previous collapse during Saturday’s 3-1 friendly win over RB Leipzig in Munich.
In a statement on Instagram, Musiala clarified his condition:
"I’ve been diagnosed with temporary, brief, but easily treatable absence seizures, which are due to a neurological dysfunction."
He continued, emphasizing that the episodes are "just part of my everyday life" and he is receiving excellent medical care.
Bayern sporting director Max Eberl had previously stated that Musiala would address the situation later.
Musiala missed six months of last season with a broken ankle but returned in the second half of the campaign, featuring in three of Germany’s four games at the 2026 World Cup.
