Muslim Council of Elders Condemns ‘E1’ Settlement Plan East of Occupied Jerusalem
The Muslim Council of Elders strongly condemns the continued illegal settlement policies of the Israeli occupation in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT), reiterating its rejection of the "E1" settlement plan and associated activities east of occupied Jerusalem.
They emphasize that these settlement plans violate international law and relevant United Nations resolutions, posing a significant threat to peace efforts and undermining the territorial contiguity of the OPT, particularly between the West Bank and Jerusalem. This jeopardizes the prospects for a viable, independent Palestinian state.
The Council denounces violations and acts of violence committed by settlers against Palestinians, backed by the Israeli occupation authorities. It calls on the international community to act urgently to halt illegal settlement expansion, protect Palestinians, and preserve their inalienable rights, ultimately working towards a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian cause, including the recognition of their right to establish their independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.
