Pakistan Club at UN Marks 79th Independence Day at New York Headquarters
UrduPoint (August 18, 2026) – The Pakistan Club, an organization of Pakistani nationals working at the United Nations, hosted a special event at the UN headquarters in New York to celebrate Pakistan’s 79th independence day.

The Club President, Ambassador Qazi Shaukat Fareed, and Secretary General Ghulam Ghous welcomed Ambassador Asim Ahmad and other guests.
Ambassador Asim Ahmad spoke highly of the Pakistan Club’s efforts to connect Pakistani expats serving at the UN and its agencies. He also praised their contribution to promoting Pakistan’s cultural heritage through various community events. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to multilateralism and highlighted the country’s diplomatic contributions, including its role in facilitating dialogue during the U.S.-Iran crisis. Furthermore, he underscored Pakistan’s active participation in the UN Security Council and initiatives for peaceful dispute resolution.
Jayantha Jayasuriya, Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the United Nations, also extended his congratulations to Pakistan on its anniversary. The ceremony concluded with a celebratory cake cutting.
