Pakistan Opens New Channel For Global Capital: Khurram

ISLAMABAD, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 20th Aug, 2026)

Pakistan has opened a new avenue for mobilising long-term foreign-currency financing after the signing of an IFC–Bank Alfalah Project Agreement under the country’s first-ever Diversified Payment Rights (DPR) Programme, Advisor to Finance Minister Khurram Schehzad said here Thursday.

In a post on his social media account on X, the advisor stated that the programme would provide up to $100 million in initial financing, with the potential to mobilise additional international private capital and establish a model for other Pakistani banks.

He emphasised that the initiative represented more than a single financing transaction, as it would help diversify Pakistan’s sources of financing and expand access to global investors.

Schehzad explained that the programme would also support productive investment and deepen Pakistan’s integration with international capital markets. He described the agreement as an important step towards creating a market-based channel for long-term foreign-currency financing, with the potential to broaden the country’s access to international capital.

The advisor highlighted that the initiative would bring "new financing, more investment and deeper markets" for Pakistan.
