PHA Introduces Beneficial Plantation Model and Forms Five-Member Committee
The Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) has initiated a new project to enhance urban greenery with a "beneficial plantation" model in Lahore. This approach focuses on promoting fruit-bearing, flowering, and medicinal trees and plants across the city.
A five-member Horticulture Committee was established by PHA Managing Director Ahmed Usman Javed to identify suitable plant species for future planting activities. The committee comprises Zahid Iqbal, Farrukh Akhlaq, Abdullah Cheema, Gulzar Hussain, and Shah Nawaz Watto.
The decision was made at a meeting led by Additional Managing Director Tasleem Akhtar Rao, attended by horticulture directors. They agreed that all future planting activities in Lahore would adhere to the beneficial plantation policy. According to this policy, each tree or plant chosen for planting must meet at least one of the following criteria:
- Fruit-bearing: Providing citizens and birds with benefits.
- Flowering: Adding beauty to the city.
- Medicine: Offering positive environmental and health advantages.
Additional MD Tasleem Akhtar Rao emphasized that this initiative aligns with Punjab Chief Minister’s vision of a "Green Punjab." He further stated that the new model will not only improve the environment but also provide tangible benefits to citizens.
