PHF Launches Major School Hockey Equipment Drive Across Punjab

Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF), in collaboration with the Government of Punjab‘s Sports Department and School Education Department, is initiating a significant project to revive hockey at its grassroots level. This involves distributing hockey equipment to schools across the province.

The main objective is to strengthen school-level hockey infrastructure, equip young players with essential tools, and foster more coaching and competitive activities. A coordination meeting was held on Wednesday at the Director General Sports, Punjab‘s office, attended by Divisional Sports Officers, PHF representatives, and the Director General Monitoring from the School Education Department.

The meeting provided clear guidelines to ensure effective collaboration and successful implementation. Divisional Sports Officers are instructed to work closely with the School Education Department, local administration, and PHF representatives. Field officers have been assigned to oversee arrangements for equipment distribution ceremonies.

The inaugural ceremony will take place on Friday at 10:00 AM at Waqar-un-Nisa College for Women, Rawalpindi. Due to heavy rains, the venue was changed from the Astro Turf Hockey Stadium. A local representative/dignitary will serve as the chief guest. The Commissioner Rawalpindi has assigned an Assistant Commissioner to manage event logistics.

The hockey equipment will be formally received by the District Sports Officer, Rawalpindi, representing PHF. Approximately 45 schools from Rawalpindi Division will participate, with each school bringing a team of 15 players accompanied by two teachers. Around 1,000 students are expected to attend as spectators.

PHF highlights that this initiative is crucial in rebuilding Pakistan’s hockey pipeline by directly engaging schools and ensuring young athletes have access to necessary equipment and opportunities for skill development. The program aims to create a solid foundation for structured coaching, regular competitions, and talent identification at the grassroots level.

The Federation expresses gratitude to the Government of Punjab, its relevant departments, local administration, and partners for their collaboration in making this grassroots hockey initiative possible.
