ISLAMABAD, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News) – Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, on Monday informed the Senate that the government was ready for dialogue with the opposition. He stated that Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif’s offer for talks still stood and had not expired.

Response to Senator Mohsin Aziz’s Point of Order:

The minister argued that dialogue within Parliament remained the most effective way to resolve political differences and advance the democratic system. He recalled the prime minister’s personal initiative during this year’s budget session, where he approached the Leader of the Opposition to discuss their differences. Following this, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Political and Public Affairs, Rana Sanaullah Khan, along with the government’s parliamentary leadership, including himself, visited the opposition leader to advance the process.

Tariq Fazal explained that discussions had been held to identify a mutually agreeable venue for meetings between the prime minister, his team, and representatives from the opposition. He offered Parliament as a venue and informed the opposition that they could also suggest a location within the Parliament House.

Clarifying the Dialogue Process:

The minister emphasized that there were no pre-conditions or predetermined agendas for the proposed talks. He urged the opposition to reach consensus internally, nominate their representatives, and decide on a time and venue to facilitate the dialogue.

He also addressed the impact of previous protests in the federal capital, acknowledging the opposition’s right to peaceful protest while simultaneously highlighting the rights of other citizens to travel freely without facing blockades that disrupt normal life.

Appeal for Dialogue:

Dr. Tariq Fazal concluded by appealing to the opposition to choose a clear path, stating that the government remained committed to engaging in dialogue if that was their desire.
