President Calls For Stronger Compliance Mechanisms To Ensure Effective Relief To Taxpayers

President Asif Ali Zardari on Wednesday called for stronger mechanisms to monitor compliance with the decisions and recommendations of Federal Tax Ombudsmen, stressing that relief provided to complainants should be meaningful and effective.
These remarks were made by the President while talking to Federal Tax Ombudsman, Mr. Zafar-ul-Haq Hijazi, who presented his Annual Report 2025 to him at Aiwan-e-Sadr.
He noted that the Federal Tax Ombudsman plays an important role in diagnosing, investigating, redressing and rectifying injustices caused by maladministration in the administration of federal tax laws.
The President also emphasized the need for greater use of new technology tools to ensure expeditious resolution of complaints.
According to a press release issued by the Presidency, during 2025:
- 37,160 fresh complaints were registered with the FTO.
- 35,830 complaints and cases were disposed of.
- Refund claims exceeding Rs. 13,000 million were decided, and the due amounts paid to aggrieved taxpayers by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).
Senator Saleem Mandviwalla was also present during the meeting.
