Punjab Police to Recruit 3,565 Constables, Traffic Assistants
Punjab Police have proposed the recruitment of 3,565 constables, lady constables, and traffic assistants to address a severe shortage of human resources within the force. According to a summary sent by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab, the current ratio of one constable to 450 people is not adequate, with each constable currently responsible for around 940 individuals.
The increasing workload on the Punjab Police, attributed to the province’s population of approximately 127 million, necessitates immediate recruitment against 3,565 vacant posts. Around 3,000 to 4,000 constable positions become vacant annually due to retirement, death, or dismissal.
The proposed recruitment would not impose additional financial burdens on the government since all expenses will be covered by the existing budget. The IGP has also recommended obtaining approval from the Standing Committee of the Cabinet for this recruitment drive, which, upon approval, will commence across Punjab, including Lahore.
