Maeve Plouffe: Rider ‘nearly hit’ by car on day one of Tour of Britain Women
BBC Sport reports that Australian rider Maeve Plouffe had a close call during the first stage of the Tour Of Britain Women. She shared her experience on Instagram, writing about a near collision with a car on a roundabout while chasing back to the peloton after a puncture.
"While the race convoy was still in sight, and I was less than two minutes down… there were cars from the general public coming at me from all directions, including one that nearly hit me on a roundabout."
Plouffe’s post comes shortly after the tragic death of British rider Fin Tarling, who was killed in a collision with a van during the Volta a Portugal. The Tour of Britain Women paid tribute to Tarling before the race began.
Jonathan Day, Events Director of British Cycling Ventures, responded to Plouffe’s comments, assuring riders’ safety as a top priority. He promised a thorough review of the incident and expressed empathy towards Plouffe and her team.
