KARACHI, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 22nd Aug, 2026) In a landmark achievement for veterinary healthcare and animal disease diagnostics in Pakistan, the Sindh Animal Disease Surveillance Centre (SADSC) has successfully conducted the province’s first-ever scientific postmortem examination of a pet cat, marking a significant milestone in the development of modern animal health services in the province.
This achievement was hailed by Sindh Chief Minister, Syed Murad Ali Shah as a major success of his government’s continued investment in strengthening veterinary infrastructure, disease surveillance, and scientific research capabilities across Sindh.
The postmortem was carried out by veterinary experts at the Sindh Animal Disease Surveillance Centre, operating under the Sindh Institute of Animal Health (SIAH), Livestock & Fisheries Department, Sindh Government, Karachi. The examination involved a two-month-old Persian cat named Leonadas.
According to the detailed postmortem findings, veterinary specialists conducted a comprehensive scientific examination revealing critical pathological indicators, including:
- Pulmonary oedema
- Liver enlargement
- Blood accumulation in the peritoneal cavity
- Evidence of an adverse immunogenic reaction
After thorough analysis, experts concluded that the animal’s death had occurred due to a mismatched blood transfusion.

He stated that the accomplishment reflects the Sindh Government’s commitment to modernising the livestock and animal health sector through science, innovation, and institutional strengthening. He noted that facilities such as SADSC are playing a crucial role in disease surveillance, timely diagnosis, and evidence-based veterinary care.
The Chief Minister congratulated Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Muhammad Ali Malkani, Secretary Livestock Dr Kazim Jatoi, Director General SIAH Dr Nazeer Kalhoro, Director Research Dr Benazir Kanwal, and the team of veterinary experts who successfully conducted the examination.
