Sports Help To Protect Youth From Social Ills: DC
Abbottabad, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 19th Aug, 2026) Deputy Commissioner Sarmad Saleem Akram has stated that the promotion of sports provides young individuals with healthy and constructive activities, thereby safeguarding them from societal maladies.
He made these remarks while addressing the closing ceremony of the Independence Cup Squash Championship, organized by the District Squash Association Abbottabad as part of the 80th Independence Day celebrations.
The DC expressed his pleasure at the championship, lauding it as a commendable initiative that would inspire young people to participate in sports and nurture their talents. He further highlighted the provincial government’s efforts to encourage athletes, improve their welfare, and provide better sports facilities, which are also being supported by the district administration.
Sarmad Saleem Akram attended the ceremony as the chief guest, alongside Malik Ghulam Murtaza Awan, Masood-ur-Rehman Awan, Waqar Maroof, and other notable figures.
In the Veterans final, Sulaiman Khan defeated Sardar Arif Mahmood 3-1 to secure the title. Abbas Khan emerged victorious in the Open category, defeating Dr Naveed 11-3, 11-9, and 11-8. Shah Mir won the Emerging category against Rania Qazi, while Ubaid beat Mahmood in the Under-9 category.
At the conclusion of the event, the Deputy Commissioner distributed medals and trophies to the successful players, commending their performances.
