Two Wanted Dacoits Killed, Accomplices Escape After Police Encounter
UrduPoint (August 22, 2026) – Two wanted dacoits were killed while their two accomplices managed to escape following a police encounter within the Civil Lines police station limits late at night.
According to a police spokesperson, a police team led by SHO Kotwali Inspector Arsalan Bari signaled four suspicious motorcyclists to stop near Chiniot Bazaar for routine checking. However, the suspects opened fire on the police personnel and sped away.
Police chased the fleeing criminals and encircled them near Darbar Ghungro Sain on Agriculture University Road. When directed to surrender, the outlaws resumed indiscriminate firing, forcing police to retaliate in self-defense.
During the exchange of fire, two suspects received critical injuries after being hit by bullets fired by their own fleeing accomplices under the cover of darkness.
The injured criminals, identified as Shehbaz alias Muta and Shoaib—both wanted in dozens of robbery, dacoity, and theft cases—were rushed to the hospital but succumbed to their injuries during treatment. Police shifted the bodies to the mortuary for post-mortem analysis and launched an investigation to trace and arrest the fleeing suspects.
