Uplift of Livestock, Dairy, Fisheries Can Usher Prosperity in Chitral: Suraya Bibi

PESHAWAR, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – August 17, 2026) Deputy Speaker of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, Suraya Bibi, has stated that the immense potential in dairy development, livestock, and fisheries sectors in Upper Chitral can boost the local economy and create new job opportunities for the area’s impoverished yet hardworking residents.

She instructed the Livestock and Dairy Development Department to fulfill its role in promoting these sectors and ensure effective measures for providing practical facilities to the people. This was during a meeting she chaired at the KP Assembly Conference Room, reviewing development schemes for Upper Chitral under the Annual Development Programme (ADP) 2026-27.

The meeting discussed the allocation of development projects for the district and reviewed ongoing and proposed initiatives from the Livestock and Dairy Development and Fisheries departments. Attendance included the Additional Secretary Livestock, Director General Livestock, Deputy Commissioner Upper Chitral, Director Fisheries, Regional Director Livestock, and Assistant Director Fisheries Chitral, among other officials.

It was informed that data collection for the Kisan Dost Card, aimed at assisting farmers, was in progress, with practical implementation to follow. The meeting also decided to provide vehicles to Upper Chitral under the Ehsaas Be-Zuban, Sehat Gaari Scheme.

Suraya Bibi directed authorities to promptly fill vacant posts in the livestock sector in Upper Chitral to enhance local service delivery. The meeting also delved into expanding semi-environmentally controlled poultry farming for veterinary students, offering them practical training in modern techniques.

Additionally, a biogas project is underway, with plans to install nine biogas plants in Upper Chitral. Another initiative reviewed was the genetic improvement of Saanen goats through advanced reproductive technologies. This project aims to enhance goat breeding and milk production locally.

Measures to promote trout fish farming were also discussed. Suraya Bibi directed the Fisheries Department to initiate construction of conservation huts and recruit necessary staff to support and advance trout farming in the district, highlighting Upper Chitral’s significant potential for this activity.
