US Open offers biggest prize fund in Grand Slam history

US Open 2026 to Offer Biggest Prize Fund in Grand Slam History with $108 Million

BBC Sport reports that the US Open will provide the largest prize fund in Grand Slam history, totaling $108 million (£79.2m), marking a significant 20% increase from last year.

Key Highlights:

  • Singles’ Champions: Each champion will receive $5.5 million (£4.03m), a 10% increase from 2025.
  • First-Round Losers: Players who lose in the first round will earn $140,000 (£102,667), a $30,000 (27%) increase compared to last year.
  • Welfare Fund: The prize pool includes a $2 million (£1.47m) contribution to a welfare fund, as demanded by leading players.
  • Grand Slam Player Council: The four Grand Slam tournaments have formed a Player Council, responding to player demands for more player representation and input.

The US Open may be the first Grand Slam to reach the players’ request of dedicating 16% of its revenue to prize money, though the US Tennis Association (USTA) has not yet released its 2025 financial statement.

Craig Tiley, USTA CEO, described the offer as a "multi-year investment in athletes."

This year, the prize money increase is most significant in the first round, with subsequent rounds seeing lower percentage increases. The mixed doubles event also receives enhanced rewards, with first-round prize money doubled.

The USTA has allocated $4 million for player benefits, with the Grand Slam Player Council to have input into the new US Open player support programme.
